    Longshot with lead bullets?

    Aloha,

I bought a pound of Longshot I had planned on using with my .38, .40 and .45 moly coated bear creek bullets, however I loaded up some rounds recently and found residue in my barrel. Not sure if it is leading or unburnt powder or what. Just to be safe I was running a brush through my barrel every few magazines. Anyways my question was whether or not Longshot is safe with moly coated bullets. Thanks!

I haven't used it on moly coated bullets but I use Longshot with lead bullets for 45acp. If you are loading light loads, it will be dirtier. I found out that Longshot works great when loading for higher speeds. I first used it loading 230gr LRN at 4.8gr of powder and it was just like you described it. I now load 185gr LSWC at 7.2gr and love it. Lot cleaner and accurate.

Im using longshot with bearcreek moly coated 230gr in my 45.... I loaded up 6.6 and 6,8 grs. (6.9max load) and they were very clean shooting... No signs of moly separating or coating the barrel... I still need to run a hundred or so thru my pistol to check further results... But im liking the accuracy of the loads,, and clean so far... Ymmv....Cheers...

Cool, thanks for all the replies, sounds like I need either better primers or to add a bit more powder (while staying within specs of course). I had no issues with my snubby in .357 or .38 loads. just my .40 and .45 loads... I also tried shooting flat nose moly bullets out of my 1911... not the best Idea I've learned (none of them wanted to load) they all shot fine though. Thanks again!
