Stuck Cases in XL650

I'm loading 5.56 for the first time on my XL650 and have been having a consistent problem with cases getting stuck and jamming up the whole press. I've been loading .308 and 45ACP with zero issues to date. This is the first real problem I've had so far with my press

I'm running dirty brass to decap then tumble and thought maybe there was some dirt build up, so I took out this part (sorry, I don't know the name) from the press and wiped it down. That's when I noticed the brass is causing an indent in there at the 11 o'clock from the "3".



The cases are tipping when the part that pushes the cases onto the shellholder is about 25% on the way towards the shellholder. I tried running freshly cleaned brass through the press after a cleaning and 6/24 cases got stuck. When that happens, I have to press down on the top of the case slightly, and it will pop into the channel and then everything will move forward into the shellholder.

I'm running all of the parts from the caliber conversion kit for 5.56/.223 and didn't really see a way to adjust the shell drop to move a bit closer so the shell consistently feeds into the channel.

So two questions: 1) what am I doing wrong? and 2) is that part toast?

Call Dillion, they are really helpful and will work through any problem you may have on the phone. I spent over an hour on the phone with them one day when I had a pile of 650 parts that needed to be assembled.
I haven't had the problem you describe, like I said I would call and just ask them. Most of the time it's a simple adjustment or they will send you a new part if the old one is defective.

That little part has given me trouble on occasion as well.
The groove that the case slides in will get the slightest of burrs or maybe just roughness and then the case tips and it gets worse.
I took a very small file and then sand paper to smooth out that groove. Opening it up just a tad. No problems since.
As with yours, it started with .223. 40 did it as well. I'm guessing those different plates are machined just a little tighter in fit than some others. Never has happened in any other sizes.

I tried polishing it and smoothing over the dent, but no improvement. Called Dillon this morning and they immediately sent me the part and a couple others. Talk about service. I've been waiting on RCBS to answer and email for a while now.

slide assy

do you have the slide and cam assy set for pistol or rifle. Try turning it around its the tall black plastic this looks like a triangle kinda. You prob did not turn it around so your press thinks your loading short pistol cases.

Yah was loading .308 prior to this and had the triangle on the rifle side. The Dillon tech thought my locator was just bad and sent me that and some other spare parts. Should have them next week.

I'm 2 for 3 in terms of great service from loading companies. Thanks Lee/Dillon.

Just when I think I am so smart with 650 and 1050 something goes wrong. Lots of parts. That said it would be hard to go back. Seems the little things are what get me.
