    Bullet Casting

Playing around with the idea. Not sure of the overall startup costs, but if the absolute cheapest way is a 1 and the best stuff is a 10, I'm probably in the 8 range.

There are some barrels that just want a bit tighter round, and so you can cast big for those. Or maybe you have a .357 carbine and you want big heavy bullets for some sort of silhouette match. Or maybe you shoot cowboy action and your range requires lead so you don't get jacket riccos.

its nice to be able to customize your alloys for your applications as well. I run really soft boolits for my subsonics. Plus I get my lead for free now, so it makes for great plinking ammo!

Its hard to beat from an accuracy stand point, some rifles like a slightly oversize bullet and if you cast its easy to do. I also don't have to worry about getting bullets for my weapons I make them.

The only problem I have is lead is harder to find that it was 20 years ago.

Something else to learn in reloading.

It isn't that expensive if you start with a Lee TL mold. That is a tumble lube bullet. You don't need a lube/sizer to use them. You need to head on over to Cast Boolits and start reading. Cast Boolits is also a good place to find lead on the cheap.

It's my next step. I've already collected a few hunnert pounds of lead, solder & WW. Just need to find a round tuit.

I started when they were talking about bullet taxes for "public safety." You know it's only a matter of time. Reloaders are now on fineswine's & yee's radars...

i started a couple years ago with minimal investment

my advice don't invest too much money into it you dont need a fancy pot and lubrisizers

you can get by with the lee lube and sizer die and the lee molds

i made enough bullets in the first month to last me till now and beyond just using a cheap 2 cavity

luckily i ran into a source and made some pucks

what inspired me to cast when bear creek bullets hit $35 i thought heck i could make them for a nickel a piece

so i rounded up some stuff

                      weekend of work

                      load em up

Depending on where you live, there might be a member near you who casts and will let you try it and than advise on equipment.

I voted other because I went and bought all the equipment and a bunch of lead and molds, and have yet to cast a single boolit.

As for trying it out, try out the castboolits.gunloads forums.

I voted for hassle but only because I live in an apartment. once I have a house and actual workspace, I will most likely be doing this. at this point I don't yet reload for pistol either, which also plays into it, but I know casting is well worthwhile, kudos to those of you who do, and expose yourself to that horrible horrible lead that sneaks around and kills children and unicorns while nobody is looking. I'm a plumber so I've worked with my share of lead, doesn't really worry me considering the millions of others things out there trying to kill me.
