What is this ammo too?

Found another couple of boxes of ammo along with the last. They appear to be pistol cartridges straight wall, copper in color for bullet and brass. "71" and "86" stamped on the base of the case. Bullet measured approximately .365, overall length .975, and case length of .71. Was in an unmarked cardboard box held together by staples with 16 in a box divided by cardboard. Any ideas? Thanks for the info for the other post.

Yup, 9x18mm Makarov.the Reds pack 'em in 16 round boxes to match up with loading two 8rd magazines. I captured a couple in Afghanistan, too bad I couldn't take them home.

that woulda been my guess. copper-washed steel case and REALLY round bullet is also a dead giveaway, the ruski guns don't feed hollow points well, they like round bullets.

Have shot a few hundred rounds of Hornady 9x18 hollow points out of my east German and Bulgarian Makarov's without any FTF/FTE issues..
