    Trail boss question

Okay, so i'm new to reloading and came across some IMR trail boss. I know it's an easy powder to work with but here's the question, is It only for lead or can I use jhp with it as well? I've heard yes and no from multiple ppl so i'm wondering if any of the veteran loaders here have any info you can give this noob, thanks for any help
(i'm loading 44mag if it matters)

Go get a copy of the latest Hodgdon 2014 Annual. All the latest data you are looking for is in there.

Thanks, I'll do that but i'm also wondering as to why only led from this powder? I know it's a light recoil cowboy style powder but I'll check that out like you said.

Trailboss works fine with JHP projectiles. Trailboss works fine with any jacketed ammo.

It was originally designed to be used with cast lead however.

I use it for many light loads, including a subsonic .308 round with 175 Sierra MatchKings. It's fine for jacketed or plated!

That's good to know, I was already thinking I had to go and buy lead projectiles when I already have 600 jhp's

Just be aware that you won't get any where near 44 Mag velocities using Trail Boss. It's great for 44 Special or lite 44 Mag loads though.

Thanks, I plan on just using the trail boss for light range ammo... So far I've been thinking 6.8 grains but not sure yet

Also read somewhere that an easy way to load it would be to mark the base of the bullet on a brass, go about /16th or an 1/8th lower and cut it off and solder a piece of wire on that brass to make a quick dipper for the trail boss powder
