Does bullet brant affect load data ?

sorry for the topic typo, its suppose to be brand, not brant

Will there be any changes on the powder load if lets say you load a 230gr FMJ hornady bullet vs a 230gr FMJ winchester bullet? From what I understand as long as the grain is the same, the same FMJ to FMJ the load data is the same, but just making sure. tnx!

It will effect the load data slightly due to differences in the alloys and the shape (bearing surface area). As long as you're not loading to maximum pressure loads and then switching components, you should be OK.

Forsaken thats a real good question and was wondering about that also!

Now to add to that question, what about load data for a 230gr HP but using a 230gr FMJ? Is using the same load data ok also as long as i don't do max loads?

Thanks, i ordered the zero fmj and was reading the winchester/hornady load manual and it says it used hornady bullet for the load data so I was just wondering if I could use that as a good base start. With win 231 of 4.3grains for minimum load and maybe bump it up to 4.5 grains. I have no plans of pushing the envelope so I won't even be near the maximum amount.

That's the correct way to start. Use the reloading manual as a guide and anytime that you substitute a different component (brass, bullet, primer) use the minimum load and work back up.

Think of it like a recipe. If you change any ingredient, the result may be different. Sometimes it is better, other times not.

Always check multiple reputable references for every load.

No, not between these two particular bullets.

                  How do I know?

I have a Midway Load MAP for the 45 ACP. It compares Hornady, Winchester, Remington, and Sierra FMJ's at the same OAL with eight different powders. There's no difference as long as you are comparing apples to apples, i.e Hornady FMJ roundnose to a Winchester FMJ roundnose at the same OAL.

Understand that JHP bullets are longer and need to be seated deeper in the case. This substantially reduces case volume and increases pressure, so be careful about how you interpret data. Don't use FMJ roundnose data with FMJ truncated cone bullets. Don't use FMJ data with JHP.

Better yet, get the bullet manufacturer's data, and do not deviate. Use the same powder, primer, case, and OAL until you have enough experience to extrapolate data.
