Is my math right?

I filled a 7.62 200 round ammo box with 40S&W, the can is 40 lbs loaded. Each round averaged 255 gr and the can is about 3 lbs. So I'm thinking there is about 1,020 rounds in there

Do I have it close?

I came up with approx 1015 but could be wrong, I went to public schools

I too came up with 1015 (and change). So depending on projectile weight variance, and slight variations in the charge, you're very close.
