    30-30 reloading questions.

I'm looking to load 30-30 for my Winchester '94, and have a few questions. I've read to only use round nose bullets, but not sure which primers to use, WLR's maybe? Any advise for loading these would be great!

Round nose and flat point bullets work well with mine. I used the only primers I could find - Wolf Large Rifle - and they worked fine too.

      Thanks for the response.
I found this too for anyone interested

Have a link to the bullets that you use?

These are what I use for my run-of-the-mill 30-30 loads.

So any 30 cal round/flat nose round will be acceptable correct?

            My 94 digests 311316 - 115gr GC and 311291 169gr gas check quite well -
If you want to use pointy bullets you can single load or just load two in the tube --

Put a good crimp on them.

I use sierra flat point 150gr. They shoot a couple inches lower then the hornandy round nose bullets @100yrds but grouping was alot tighter. The hornadys were also shooting couple inches right compared to the sierras.

This was using 37gr of lvr powder, @ max over all length and wlr primers. I may shorten the length of the entire round, and re testing step loads. Also may try 170gr.

30/30 was my first reloading experience and was very fun to work with, especially comparing bullets and powders

Did Hornady ever start selling just the Leverelution bullets or do you still have to buy loaded ammo?

Your load source should indicate what primer was used. Large Rifle is the answer you want.

Round nose bullets are the tradition with the 30-30, but Hornady has special FTX bullets now, but I am waiting for my backorder, probably with everyone else. For now I have 150gr Interlock RN. I believe those are in stock at Midway right now or were a few days ago. Also see if Powder Valley still has stock. That's were I got mine a couple weeks ago. 170 gr is around too, but you give up some velocity. It depends what you are shooting and at what ranges. I think 150 is pretty much bread and butter for this caliber and type of gun.

                        Nathan --
I seem to have misplaced my data sheet on those - tough to get old -
I think they were loaded using an old hodgdon book -
                        perhaps 30 gr 4895 @ about 1900 --
I don't crimp since I load them single shot --
I have found, over the eons, that 311316 works well in most 30 cal that I have -- 30/30 - 30/40 - 06 - even the 30 carbine, though it did not feed well
                        in mine --

I've been loading 34.0gr RL#15 under a Hornady 170gr FN for years in my Mod 94 with very ,very good results. Deer and pigs don't like it much tho!

They sell the pills. They are the FTX line...
