    Reloading for accuracy semiauto?

I understand the process for accurate loads for a bolt gun but what is the process for a ssemi automatic rifle to achieve max accuracy?

same concepts apply, however you are constrained to OAL that play well with what your magazine will accept.

understand that you must Full length size after every firing as the extraction process is so volatile on the case that it deforms it too much; you will never form fit a case for semi-auto. neck sizing is out of the question.

you could seat bullets out further, past magazine length. you would just have to load one at a time.

Also beware not to use bolt per loads for semi due to the pressures being way different between the 2. Especially for match guns. I believe semis have greater pressures at lower loads. I could be mistaken but I know one has a higher pressure usually at the same powder charge.

The same load in a bolt action may be too high of a load for a semi-auto.

You'll want to do load workups to validate the load in your semi-auto.

With that said, I've noticed there is no exact science to this.

My semi-auto runs a load a lot of guys say is their bolt action load and I get no noticeable pressure signs. Every rifle is an individual i guess.

Use GI brass if you can. It is thicker and more durable. Remember that the capacity is smaller, so start your loads lower. What caliber you shooting?

Don't forget to use "small base" dies if you have a .223 or match chamber.

definitely depends on your semi-auto as well. if you have something with an adjustable gas system, you can tailor that to work with your load, as long as it's not too long to fit in the mag or using a powder that's way way off.

S/B sizing does seem to help in accuracy.

Just curious cause I plan on using Varget and IM4895 under 168's and 175's. I see Varget and IMR as moderately fast powders.

I use IMR4064 in .308 &'06 I would consider the powders you mentioned mid speed compared to Bullseye orIMR 7828.

those are both great powders for semi-auto rifles, you'll be fine. I've loaded some .308/7.62 with BL-C(2) but haven't tried it out yet. the FAL and MAS 49/56 can both be adjusted gas-wise so it may require some tweaking, but should work well. what kind of gun are you loading for?
