    New press arrived today!

    Look at me go!

After reading the instruction manual I'm thinking I have to modify my bench before mounting it. Here is the side of the bench I would mount it to, as to not interfere with the drawers. Any ideas? I guess I need 3/4" overhang?
No I don't want the strong mount.

Here are the accessories I got with it.

I'm thinking I'll make room in the garage and just build another bench. I could use the extra top space.

how come you don't want to use the strong mount? It brings the press up a little bit and might help with some ergonomics.

I think the strong mount is one of the best accessories dillon makes.

I'll have to do some measuring but it seems like the shell plate will be just at chest level. If I raise the press another 6 in I'm concerned I won't be able to look down into the case as easily

Check out the ultramount from inline fabrication. They have a short model as well. Plus, they offer quick disconnect top plates for it. That way you can leave the stand on the bench and swap out your 650 for the superswage, or a single stage, or even a vise. They also do custom patterns so you can get a top plate for anything you want. I just got one about 2 weeks ago. I am so impressed. Wish I would've had this a long time ago.

Nice! It's a bit of a learning curve but once you get going you'll be able to crank out the ammo. Then you'll be in the same boat with the rest of us...always on the hunt for good components!

                  Forget it
                  You'll need that strong mount
With that facing 2x4 in front, the cam will hit that board and not let you swing the handle through its entire arc. Check it out for yourself.
There are tabs on the bottom of the press that will allow you to snug it up to the edge of the table
While holding the press in place with your left hand, pull the handle as far as you can and you'll see where it hits the frontpiece. ALSO you will need the taller strong mount to give you the clearance you need. I have an older strong mount that is an inch or 2 taller than my new one.
The shorter mount will need to be shimmed up with thick washers. I needed 3 washers to get me the clearance I needed.
Good luck and enjoy your Dillon
                  You made the best choice.

Yes, keep in mind they do make two heights of strong mounts. A 6" and an 8". The 6" will only work for a 650, the 8" will work for either the 650 or 550. But like stated above you may need the taller strong mount in order to clear the front of the drawer. It's hard to tell exactly what's going on in that picture though. I always buy the taller mounts for all my presses.

How tall is your bench? If it's around the standard height of 3' you'll have no problem looking into the cases to check for powder.

Bench top is 37.25 in. from the floor.
I'm thinking I should have ordered the 8 in. strong mount

                        Congratulations on your press.

I would put that tumbler on the floor and probably in the corner away from the bench if you ever want to load while that thing is running. Also get a lamp timer, that way you can run it unattended and it automatically shuts off.

I also replaced the wing nut with a threaded plastic knob from the local hardware store. Make sure you get either SAE or metric thread based on the center stud.

Nice tip on the timer thanks
Ya I'm going to reorganize it all when I mount the press.

I just roughly measured the press and it appears the top of a 30-06 casing will be 9 in. from the bottom of the press. With a strong mount that should leave about 7 or 8 in. to my eye level. Is that appropriate?
