Help With Lyman 310 Reloading Tool

I'm venturing into making my own black powder cartridges and purchased some Lyman 310 reloading tools for .45 Colt and .45-70.

The neck resizing and recapping die, the first die, seems very tight. The neck of the case is supposed to be resized to the depth the bullet will be seated. On a .45-70 that's pretty far. However, those dies are so tight the case won't travel in more than a few mm. And it makes the neck of the case a lot smaller.

My .45 Colt tool now has a case stuck in it so tight I can't get it out. I did lube it first, but maybe not enough.

The videos I watch make this seem really easy. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I know the idea is to use the old style tool but, I use a a seperate set of dies & a universal decapper on a std press with a Lee measurer with pyrodex P.

I've never loaded rifle stuff with the 310 set-up but was very successful with handgun stuff. I think I used lanolin for case lube; a little goes a long way and it don't like cold weather. You didn't mention if your brass was new or once-fired. All the stuff I did was used. Brass is "tempered" at the mouth and new stuff might fight harder because it might be a couple thousands wider than fire-formed cases.

California gun laws are proof that some stupid comes in a full metal jacket.
