Q's regarding .204 Ruger

A friend of mine was talking about the .204 Ruger Cartridge. I'm not finding too much feedback regarding this cartridge. I like feedback from anyone who has used this cartridge (target, hunting, etc...)?

Had a 24" AR in it. Did awesome things to jackrabbit heads at 50 yards. There's better rounds out there though that are just as fast with a heavier bullet...although it was pretty cool to run in an AR.

I have a Savage varmit barrel rifle in 204Ruger. It is an excellent cartridge. It is actually quite popular. I also have a Rem varmit rifle in 223. They both work.
I do not see it being hard on barrels.
It is a neat little cartridge. I use mine at the range and for shooting squirrels and PD's when I am in Wy.

BS it is no harder than 223 on a barrel.

It's a great little cartridge, no harder load than 223, very accurate, very flat shooting, but brass is hard to find , but it's not hard on brass at all and you can neck size only! I love my 204 and may get another.

Have to disagree on burning barrels out....been running Ruger Mk3 for last 5 or 6 years at 6 too 8 hundred rounds a session...anywhere from 1 to 4 sessions a year with no apparent loss of accuracy or performance from rifle....prairie dogs do not like this round ....anywhere within 4 hundred yards or closer.....

Have a friend who is an avid P-dog shooter and loader as well as an FFL, so he can buy whatever he wants. He said he could not get the .204 to shoot as well as he wanted, so he re-barreled to .260 Rem. He says it is now a tack driver.

Well White Oak advised me against the chambering...back in 2009.

It's the 222 Remington magnum round necked down to 20 caliber. It's suitable for short to medium range small game and varmint (up to coyotes). It's not used much for any type of target shooting because of the limited availability of true match grade bullets in .20 caliber and the lightweight bullets are very fickle in the wind.

Btw, I went with the 20 Practical. Uses 223Rem cases necked down to 20cal. Dies are cheap and barrels are reasonable. No fireforming either. Almost the same ballistic as the 204.

It depends on how far you are shooting them. I use my 6.5x284 with the 142 grain SMK for prairie dogs but I start shooting them at 600 yards.

Thats pretty amazing. I don't think I can even see a squeek at 600yds. much less shoot one. I'm only effective out to ~400yds with a 22-250 using a 69gr SMK. Never tried to use anything bigger.
