    reloading 45-70

Anybody have a good recipe for remington 300gr jhp &h335? Or hornady 350 gr jfp, interlocks with h335? Just curious loaded my 1st rounds yesterday & am excited to try them. But wondering if any 1 else uses h335 ?

I also loaded some with irm 3031 out of the Hornady book 2 give them a try also.

Are you loading for a Trapdoor or lever gun? There is serious difference.

For a modern lever gun, Hodgdon says 61 to 68 grains of H335 with a 300 grain bullet.

          I use 3031 for a 45-70 trapdoor.
I use this link to start my load. I decided to stay on the low end to be safe.

Thats where i got some of my in put for the h335 but the difference in between there load & the hornady load for 3031 is an extreme difference

My data lists 54gr H335 for a 405 gr projectile , modern rifle only . Used a lot of IMR 3031,works good. Using ImR 4198 in .45/90currently.

Save the 335 for your ar use the 3031 for your .45/70 or .30/30.

Ball powder can at funny to ignite ,you might use mag primer & a real good crimp.

Get your hands on some H4198 when you can. I think you'll find it a superior powder for 45-70. I have developed some very accurate loads with it in my 1895 GBL.
