Is that supposed to say IMR 4895?

From what I understand 4895 is THE powder to use when duplicating M1 loads. Second best is IMR 4064.

Yes it is. I make that mistake often. :P Same with H4895. While indeed those powders are the go to powders for M1 Garand loads there are MANY that fulfill the requirement. There is a misapprehension that only a few loads work with the M1.

47grs of IMR4895(the powder the rifle was designed around) and a 147-150gr bullet. Reg or mag primers will work just fine.
              Second choice would be IMR4064.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

46.5-47gr of IMR 4895, under a 150gr projectile. Works great!

+1.. I ran it under a 155 gn CC this weekend and it was great as well. Right around 2,600 fps and a 20 fps ES and 9 fps SD.

my lyman manual has some Garand specific info. Some of the hand loader magazines have also done extensive write ups that were helpful.

NRA has a magazine type book on taking your Garand match shooting.

Attached is a .pdf of data I've had from 2004. Possibly just a restatement of previously posted data.

I would always verify data back to the original source. Also, develop a consensus about what powders and charges are correct or acceptable for a given bullet, specific (of course) to being fired from the M1 Garand.

I just started firing my Garand using my handloads. So far so good. I'm using 168 grain JHBT (jacketed hollow point boat tail) bullets (usually Sierra) with 47.0 grains of IMR 4064.

                        Cherish and enjoy your Garand

                          Newb alert, newb alert!!
In the reloading tips PDF above, why do powder charge weights decrease when bullet weight increases? Is that because heavier bullets are longer and seated deeper, reducing case capacity?

No it's because combustion energy is a function of pressure and moving a bigger heavier bullet out of the bore causes the combustion energy to go up, making your powder requirement to be lower. If you used the same powder charge as a lighter bullet you'd have an overpressure situation. Case capacity is a factor but it is less so than the energy required to move the extra weight down the bore.
