The .276 garand was experimental - first was 3.0 cal, then .276 then patton I think asked for it to go back to 30.06 again

The .276 was for the Pedersen rifle - A toggle action not unsimuilar to a luger pistol --
I don't know if the 276 was used in the early experimental garands -

Yes the prototype was a 276 but then the army wanted a 30-06 one so that is what we have.

Gen MacArthur was incharge of the ordnance dept,he did not approve the .276,citing the abundance of .30-06 left from WW1.
