    300 Blackout

I have been reloading for quite a while. I am new to 300 Blackout ammunition. Of all the reloading manuals I have, none list the 300 Blackout. So I was wondering if anyone could share a good recipe for that round. Types of bullets and powder used. Loads would be used for shooting paper down range. Practicing and honing in the zero with iron sights and later the Optic type sites. Then shooting targets at approx. 100m.

    Thank you

Plenty of info out there. 125gr to 220 gr bullets. H110, A1680, and a couple others.

    I use 17gr of H110 under a 150gr FMJ.

This is an extremely hot load! I wouldnt be giving that kind of data out to someone thats new to the cartridge!

      Max for h110 under a 150grain is 15.9

The best data source is Hodgdon Powder data on-line. Hornady has data in their 9th Edition and also Sierra lists data: http://sierrabullets.files.wordpress...c-blackout.pdf
I shoot Hornady 110 V-max, M80 147gr. pulled bullets, and Nosler 125 Ballistic Tips. Plinking with the 147 FMJ's, target with Hornady 110 V-Max, and if I hunt using the Nosler 125 BT's. I use Hodgdon H110 in mostly LC brass with RP 7 1/2 primers. My plinking load is 16.5 grains of H110 with the 147 FMJ's for a little less than 2000 fps. I recommend Hornady's Headspace gauge set to adjust your sizing die to push and form shoulders back a measured amount. AR chambers can be 6-8 thousandths longer than factory case headspace or your sizing dies setback. Some cases have too thick case walls and necks come out too large in diameter with a seated bullet. Necks should be less than .334" with a seated bullet. 300 BLK is fun to load and shoot!

16.2, which yields 3000 CUP less than other combo's max loads.

          But yeah, still hot.

The 300 Blackout forum is definitely a goldmine, both for loads and just more generally to get a sense of what's popular, and also what OAL to use (since some bullets end up hitting the magazine rib in an unfortunate way depending on OAL).

I use 17.3 grains of h110 under a m80 147 grain 308 bullet seated midway through the cannelure. No pressure signs in my carbine and its a great shooter

What was your OAL? I was at 2.2"ish.

18g of H110 under a 125g SST bullet seated at the cannelure worked very well for me with CCI450 primers. Quickload claimed that was a max load (MAP-15%).

Seating depth can make a big difference in pressure, there are a LOT of 308 bullets available with different lengths and rear shapes. I'd recommend starting cautiously if you aren't dealing with the bullet from MFG data. For 150g bullets IMR4198 seems to give the same velocity for the same pressure as H110 (according to quickload), and it's much nicer to work with (H110 is very fine and gets all over the place).

Min loads of H110 in my 300BLK would not cycle the action. Make sure that the bolt is locking all the way back. It can seem to feed okay but if it doesn't lock back all the way it will fail to strip the first round on the next mag. As a reloader it's disconcerting to get a click when you expect a bang.

One last note, uncrimped 300AAC shells can chamber in a 223/556 gun (the bullet gets pushed into the brass to fit) - resulting in injury/destruction. I don't bring the 300 and the 223 to the range at the same time so it's much harder to get the ammo/magazines mixed up.

For the .308, 150, HDY FMJ-BT 3037 with 17g of H110 pressure is 62kp at the cannelure (COAL 2.06") and 46kp at 2.2" COAL. That's a big 0.14".... Probably worse in LC brass.

I color tape my mags and do the same don't bring other caliber to range session. Easier to sort brass at end of day also
