Denver'06 the other looks like another GI case being formed for something left unfinished.

Between 1941 and 1944, the Denver Ordnance Plant manufactured almost five billion .30-06 cartridges.

There's only about .029" of taper in a 30.06 case so it can look straight. If the case is 2.94" long it's a 30.06. It could also have been fired in an over sized chamber that took some of the taper out of it or it could be someone's attempt at improving the case.

On the shorter case, you need to provide case mouth diameter and case length.

It is just over an inch 1/2 tall. I have one that also here that is (appears to be_) an 06 case. I have a large amount of those. This one is made by the Denver Plant, but I do not think it is that.

So are you going to show the headstamps, or just keep screwing around? You are staring to give out that "Troll" vibe.

All the 44-40 I have seen has a very small shoulder. Ive never seen straight walled 44-40. Im not getting a 44-40 vibe from that picture though.

                Head Stamp

OK.. Here is a pic of the headstamp. As I have stated, there is nothing on there but the DEN 43.

                I hope this helps.

The denver 43 30/06 case looks like it was/is in the process of being made into something like a 45 auto shotshell -
Is there not a hi power pistol cartridge that is made from 06? perhaps a wildcat? 44 auto mag?
The case appears cut off and the ring appears to be a tubing cutter mark.
                  just a wag -
However, there is no doubt it started out as a 30/06 case.

Yeah, surprised he did not take photos of the headstamps from the get-go.

Okay, all one has to do is Google it. I found a whole lot of listings for it. Go through them. It appears it may be .30-06.

Sorry for not being as experienced as the rest of you. I did do a google search on it, it did not show anything that was specific on the case that is there. If it is an 06 case then it is a really strange one. I know that the bottom give it the ID of an 06, but it is to short, and to big of a mouth.

                          IMHO....

It could very well be a wildcat off of the 30/06 case.

                          God knows which one.
