He cannot use these she'll holders for a pro1000. They are different for the press. You can reload all pistol calibers plus 7 39 and 223. Also 30 cal. I would not load 308 or any other calibers since there is not enough leverage to run them.

Don't need to be a "kid" to mess up; lots of gray hair and beer guts have managed to screw up....It's your mindset and ability that are important. You need to read and study reloading; not much of it is "intuitive". There's usually a good reason why something is done the way it is...Have fun!

Yes, that's what I was referring too. I just could not articulate that well. I understand this requires precision, know how and the ability to understand what each and every item does/is.
Also "kid" because children don't have the mental capacity and they would just jump right in without learning.

            That's why i'm here.

You "can" do .308 with the right shell plate (the #2 for .45 Auto will work), but you'd have to manually index the press. You're not going to be able to do .54R on one at all because there's no shell plate. The rest, you can do.

I have two Pro 1000's, both of which are used exclusively for handgun rounds. That really is their forte and what they're best at. For my rifle rounds, I use Lee's Classic Turret Press. It's just a better tool for rifle cartridges than the Pro 1000. Consider that the LCTP is $100 and built like a tank.

                powder
                primers
                bullets
                casings
                tumbler (harber-great)
                medium for tumbler, what kind?
                digital scale
                little scoops and cups etc.

                what else?
A tumbler is simply to make the cases look shiny. I use one but it is optional.

corn cob media seems to polish brass much better, walnut is more course and will clean quicker. i stick with corn cob since my cases never get really dirty with some turtle wax car polish (safe for brass)

frankford (sp?) arsenal makes a great cheap little digital scale ive never had an issue with for around 30-40$

                  cheapo lee powder funnel

case tray for holding your brass in production

ive been using a cheap *** harbor freight caliper for measurement for the last 5 years, no issues.

hornady one shot lube or lee is fine. one shot is quick.

most importantly and is not as boring as it sounds (for when your on the pot or laying in bed) GET A RELOADING MANUAL!!! these contain lots of fun to read knowledge, i started with a lyman but barnes is nice as well as nosler. you cant have too many. this should be the first thing you buy next. read the beginning chapters then flip to 45 acp. read the info on it and study different charges (mins +maxs) just to get a feel for what your getting at.

                    Yugo:

Not sure if you are in the west or east valley but we just posted the next CGSSA Ventura County Reloading Club clinic that will take place on Groundhog Day, February 2, 2014. I encourage you to come out and learn how to reload safely. We hold the clinic in Camarillo, which is a mere 25 minute drive from the West Valley. Every question you are asking in this thread will be addressed in our clinic and you will walk away having reloaded either 50 rounds of straight wall pistol, 40 rounds of .223 or 20 rounds of larger caliber rifle and our instructors can provide recommendations about gear, how to setup your gear, etc. It will be the best investment you could make into your nascent reloading skills.

Good Question. How much does such a clinic cost to attend? Maybe I can find one in my area too.

It varies a little bit, but it is $20 for annual dues plus the clinic fee, usually $40-50 although it can be less if you supply some of your own components.

Yugo, you'll have the choice of the LA or Ventura chapter. Tujungatoes has said LA chapter may hold a clinic in January (in Santa Clarita) and I am hoping that we can do a progressive clinic or demo with Dillon and Hornady (and Lee) machines at some point in the future. Only problem is that setup is so much of using a progressive machine that some users have to be willing to take down their setup to bring to the clinic. In any case at the last LA clinic there were a few Lee progressives, so if you're willing to bring your press someone will guide you through it at either club's meeting (might even be the same person since the two clubs are sharing some instructors).
