    Redding.

    What have you reloaded?

What's your expectation of "precision rounds"?

I think there are two different kinds of "percision".

There is nats arse competition where every round is exactly the same. If your ultimate goal is that, then your die is the last thing. Because case prep and powder measurement to the .001 of a gn will be important. Then a Redding comp die.

If your just looking to tailor a round to your rifle for accurate precision shooting. Then I think a standard RCBS full length sizing and seating die is just fine. The accuracy is going to come in with you working up a specific load for your rifle.

I am going to post on this thread just so I can find it later when I need to. Sorry for the trouble if it bothers anyone. But I am learning too, and will need to come back to this thread eventually.

I haven't loaded many .30-06 rounds yet but my RCBS dies are working fine. I'm loading for a Garand and 1903A3 so they are not precision guns but I'm happy with the way the RCBS dies handle resizing and bullet seating.

I use the RCBS die as well. I do recommend the competition seating die as it controls the bullet better. Precision reloading is about process, patience and time, the few times we can spend money to buy instruments that do this for us we should. The wilson dies seem like an interesting idea but I've never used them. Reloading at the range can be a huge boon if you have a controlled environment, but even then I'd likely just bring a small single stage press rather than invest in a separate type of press and dies.

I highly recommend the "my weigh gempro 250" scale. A beam scale is great but they are not fast. The gempro isn't extremely speedy either but it is reliable, has a predicable return to zero drift and is reasonably priced.

I also use a simple and cheap Lee Perfect Powder measure. It's very good for many different types of powders and is the cheapest measure out there. It is not nearly as pleasing to the eye as a harrells but it's $20, not $120.

I use a RCBS,Redding,Hornady and Lee.Oh,and a couple sets of Dillon. If loading for the same rifle all the time, consider a neck size die as well.
Like others mentioned, componants, like the tools make a big difference.
Do you have a decent trimmer, something to measure overall case length, good supply of quality brass, bullets? The list goes on.I manage to make very good precision rounds with just general type dies, but have gone all out for a couple calibers.
Stick with a good customer service maker of equipment though.I will recommend RCBS,Dillon and Hornady in that respect.Redding I have no knowledge of their customer service.Lee was just OK.
Keep in mind if you are loading semi auto rounds, there are special die sets, called small base die sets.
Good luck and I am happy to see another loader
