What's the rundown on this?

I know Xtreme has 123 FP bullets but it's not jacketed its copper plated
what precautions do I need to do?

I know I can't load up to full muzzle velocity, any help?

I think you will find that reloading plated bullets will in the end not be any more cost effective or accuracy enhancing then shooting crappy surplus out to 100 yards.

If you are going to reload and want accuracy, functioning, and a longer distance capability I would look at reloading 150 grain Hornady/Speer or pulled 7.62x54R 148 grain bullets seated out to touch the lands.

The cartridge comes alive with heavier bullets and will shoot 80% of a .308 win out to 600 yards properly loaded and with good iron sights or optics.

looks like ill be joining you folk in loading 7.62x39 as well. I just need to get some bullets and die set. Once i do I will try a few powders and run them with a chronograph and see how they work. Stay tune........

Exodus was asking about reloading plated bullets, which is a little different than standard jacketed loads.

Reloading 7.62x39 is normally very straightforward. If you are loading for a SKS or AK, get .310 bullets. Fmj, soft point, or plastic tip are available from various manufacturers. I like Hornnady and PPU bullets for 123 gr. they run from $20-30 per hundred.

You can load bullets up to 150, but many experience issues when going any heavier in auto loaders. .308 bullets will work in an ak or sks, but accuracy will suffer and you can't afford to give much away with these rifles. Mini-30 is the primary platform that uses .308 in this cartridge...not sure what ARs chambered in it use.

I've had great success using the Hornady manual data, and RL-7 and h4198 powders. Accurate1680 is supposed to be closest to the soviet formula, but good luck finding it.

Lee die set is a good one...comes with expanders for .308 and .310 bullets. Get the set with the fcd, since a little crimp is good on these cartridges.

Thanks bruinsguys for the info. I was also planning on using plated bullets since they are cheaper then fmj. I just placed an order with xtreme. So hopefully they will be here soon
