New Die Set......Need Bullet Recomendation

Had 2 boxes of Winchester SuperX 223 64gr in hand and put it back on the shelf, to buy RCBS 223 Small Base Two-Die Rifle Set (same price).

I have a Colt M4 (LE6920), 16" barrel with 1:7 twist. I've been shooting PMC 55gr and not happy with results. Groups (if you can call them that) are terrable. From what I've read, I need a heavier bullet for the 1:7 twist. Can anyone recommend a good bullet & weight? I'd like to develop a good general use (target/plinking/coyote, etc.) load.

I use 75 gr Hornady HPBT but I am not sure if you can get them in mag length. The min is a 2.250 in. not sure what the max length for a ar mag is as I do not shoot AR's.

I shoot Hornady 55gr FMJBT out of my 1:7 20" AR with good results. I wouldn't go any lighter though as I've seen the jackets separate off the bullets after they leave the barrel. I only use my rounds for punching holes in paper, so if you want a hunting round for coyotes you might need to go with a little heavier bullet or at least use a hollow point.

what kind of groups are you looking for? M855 (62gr) is decent but won't get you sub MOA. more importantly how are you shooting? prone? standing? bench?

PMC is one of the reasons people handload. Winchester SuperX isn't much better. I'm sure many Calgunners get other-worldly results with them, but this is The Internoogie, so you need to proceed with caution.

Fifty-five grain bullets can produce fine accuracy out of many 1-7 twists, but since you are looking for a versatile handload:

These 65 grain spritzer boat tail GameKings are great bullets for a variety of uses. They are extremely accurate for your paper punching days, reasonably priced at only a few pennies per round more than crappy bullets, and very effective on appropriately sized game. They will play fine if you press that gun into a defense role.

If you want one bullet to serve several purposes without compromising too much in any area, I would start here. They should be right in your barrel's sweet spot.

Looking for groups (consistant groups) and preferably 2" or less at 100yds
At the range: mainly bench, then prone
Hunting: prone, kneeling, sitting w/sticks, & standing w/tree or sticks (basically what ever is the best possible position for the shot).

Thanks. This is basically what I'm looking for, at this point.
I load Sierra's for my pistols and have been very happy with them. This will be my 1st attempt for rifle. From reading & searching, I was thinking about using 69's. However, while in the store. I noticed that the shelf had a full stock of 69's, but the 65's were gone! This lead me to reconsider and ask. I will get my hands on some of the 65's and work up some test loads. Again, thanks!

Sierra 52 53 69's match work good 50gr &up Vmaxs work good.
