Bulgarian Yellow Tip: Safe to fire from Mosin?

So this past Vallejo gun show I bought some Milwall Bulgarian (I believe) 7.62x54R. When I opened it up to inspect em, I noticed they came in a pink wrapper and were yellow tipped, which was new to me since when I bought Milwall Bulgarian ammo a year ago at the Cow Palace the rounds were wrapped in green paper and the rounds had no yellow tip. So anyways, I went to shoot them at Chabot Shoot N' Que and noticed the yellow tip ammo kick a little bit more than the non yellow, and sometimes the yellow tip was harder to extract then the non yellow tip. Is this the 7.62x54r heavy ball designed for lmgs and not rifle? And is it safe to shoot from my Mosin? Thanks

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

My experiance has been very much like yours. The yellow tips are very hard to extract after a few rounds. I have shot many, many rounds through my Mosin without any ill effects. What I do when shooting yellow tips is to apply high tempature silicon inside the chamber, this helps in reducing semi-stuck rounds.

Bulgarian Heavy Ball vintage 1954, the other ammo is light ball from 1953. Both shoot good, but check the light ball rounds before shooting, 1952 and 53 light ball have problems with cracked necks

yellow tip and yellow stripe on can means heavy ball

also if they are hard to extract, you might check the chamber to see how clean it is, especially since brass doesn't usually stick as much as steel cases

I have shot quite a bit of the Bulgarian Heavy ball (1955 manufacture), and it has been great ammo. I've never had problems with extraction, but it definitely gives a nice kick and a great fireball!

yea I had that problem with "sticky bolt" when I first got my Mosin, but for the most part it's been remedied since I've been shooting it since I bought it at Big 5 a year from now. From the first time that I got it I cleaned almost every bit of cosmoline from the action and chamber, so now the problem can't be sticky bolt.

On Saturday the light ball was going through and ejecting fine, and then I got some problems every 4 rounds or so with the yellow tip. But overall, it's safe to use (no problems with heavy ball ammo being over pressure)?

Czech silvertip caused stick bolt in my guns before. The yellow tip worked ok. Albanian can be brass cased but I've had problems with it too.

50's bulg. HB through an M44 is the only way to live. it's the only ammo my mosin sees. it gobbles this stuff up. the wrappers come in all colors but those tins pretty much all look like that. i have put a good 600 rnds of that through my M44. no stickybolt and i have never had a misfire or a split case.

It's safe, it'll just kick. But then again it's a Mosin...
