    Request for recipe 40 Cal.

    Hello

I am looking for a nice soft target load for my wifes 40 cal. Glock.

I have Unique powder old dirty stuff and new cleaner burning.

I have Bear Creek 180 grain flat points.

Would like to know what other folks are loading.

    Thanks

For the wife, I would use a minimum load. The problem is that a minimum load of Unique under that bullet feels like a full power load. You should look at Bullseye instead.

I use Unique across the load spectrum and everything save for close-to or full power loads feels the same pushing 180grs.

Having loaded 155gn plated bullets over 6.5 grains Unique, I found they were soft enough for my 9yo to shoot yet still cycled through the gun well enough. Spendy these days for target loads though. I can buy 1k 180gr plated for about what 250 of the 155gr costs.

I went to a Wolf conversion barrel and lighter 9mm loads for my kid. He'll shoot those all day out of my G23.

Im running 4.7 grains of Unique under 180 grain lead projectiles in my XD. Not sure if its a "light" load. My load for 45acp feels much lighter (5gr w/ 200gr lrn)

Counts on what Glock you have as the shorter barrel makes the difference. I like HP38 (which is also W231), using my Glock 23, and I've done 3.2 grains to 5.0 grains. At 3.2, it won't cycle reliably, but there's no recoil; if you limp wrist your gun, it definately won't cycle. At about 3.8 grains it'll cycle consistently with little recoil, but isn't accurate. At 4.2 grains, what I normally use, it's accurate and recoil is moderate. Anything more is roughly the same accuracy, but with considerably more recoil.

Like Raralith, I'm using W231 with the 180gr FP too. I'm using 4.2 gr at 1.125", Win SP primers. I'm getting 790 FPS 10' from the muzzle. Cycles my guns just fine and its a powder puff load.

                Request for recipe 40 Cal.

I loaded lots of 180 grainers with 5.4 grains of "Unique" and found that to be a pretty good load for target shooting. Firearm was a G22, as dirty as unique can be, especially on low end loads...its great stuff. My experience with "Unique" (I exclusively load 5 calibers with "Unique" and happen to love the versatility of the stuff) is it tends to burn cleaner on the hot end of data. Good luck.

I use 180 extremes with titegroup 3.7 1.12oal wsp. Great on my g23.
Also like 5.5 wsf same oal / projectile. Good luck and stay safe.

I use 180 plated with 5.0 and up to 5.3 grains Unique at 1.135 OAL.
Made a bunch of it tonight as a matter of fact.

Any idea how fast are those ? Under 1000 fps ?

5.3 hrs of Unique is good for 900 FPS with 180's in the .40

The problem is the huge ES, sometimes exceeding 100 FPS

                            For my .40 I found:
                            (Xtreme 180gr flat nose)

                            Hi-Skor 800x
5.9 grains averaged out to 881 fps. Spent casings basically fell out of the gun. Very little recoil.
6.1 grains cycled better (Not that 5.9 had issues, but...) and had little recoil. FPS around 900.

I currently load 6.9... which averages out to about 1010 fps. A little more recoil, pretty hefty muzzle flip - and sends the spent casings into orbit by comparison.

This is the load I use (4.2 grains of HP38 with 180 grain plated flat points). Pretty accurate for a target load, and managable recoil.
