45-70 on the LNL AP.

Any body having problems loading 45-70's on their Hornady LNL?

I have yet to try 45-70 on mine but 30-06 sometimes falls on to the shell plate instead of ejecting in the bin and on a fast down stroke I get some powder out of the case.

Hey Mopar, Thanks for the reply.
My problem is that the case retainer spring won't stay in the groove at the ejection area. Case won't eject...just falls on the floor.
I have other shell plates but the one for 45-70 is the only one that does that.

I had a similar problem with the .30-30 shellplate, maybe it doesnt like rimmed cases? Although ive never had a problem with .357.

At any rate, i eventually fixed the problem: tightening down the shellplate really tight with an allen wrench helped, but i wasnt completely satisfied. then i realized the motion was a bit jerky and ever so slightly off. After adjusting the pawls a bit it works like a charm.

Hi DM, Thanks for the reply. I load 44 mags, 500 S&W and other rimmed cases ...no problem.
My press is on it's way home to Hornady. I broke the drive hub. The screws that hold on the sub plate were so tight that I couldn't get 'em lose.
I'm hopeful that the home folks can figure it out.

I started putting a lock washer on my shellplate bolt. It seems to keep everything in place better. I was having ejection issues while reloading 9mm and it ended up being from a loose shellplate. It would come loose every 4-5 hundred just enough to hang the press up.

Same thing happened to me, had to drill out one of the screws to change the sub plate.

When you got it out, what did you find...just tight or loc tite?
Hornady says "no loc tite" I wonder.
Any how...it's great you were able to get it out.

No lock tight or anything. I don't know how it got so tight.
