I need help getting more consistent powder drops.

Right now they are +- 2 grains.
Yes. Plus or minus TWO grains.

So I have to sit and manually adjust every single load.

i tried lapping the lee powder dropper. I put the 1lb block of powder through it about 5 times.

What's the best, next, least expensive thing I can do to make this process useful?

800x is a pretty course powder. When you bring the handle into the charge position, try tapping it against the stop a few times to settle the powder into the hopper. Then do the same thing when you dispense the powder into the case. Be consistent to the number of times & how hard you tap against the stop to get a more consistent charge.

I have the same dropper. With Unique (disc shaped), it's off anywhere from 0.1 to 0.5 gr. I have sizable double-digit poundage of Unique so I haven't loaded anything but in a LONG time.

Not sure of the shape of your IMR powder, but I've read in several places that wide variances with anything but spherical powders is common with this dropper.

Have to do the same w/ the RCBS Uniflow.
I really solved the problem when I went to a ChargeMaster.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

RCBS chargemaster is extremely tempting. Bit on the expensive side though.

I did try double-tapping the handle up and down each time, that gets me +/- .4 at least so that's a huge improvement, thanks.

Then try a Little Dandy. They throw extremely accurate charges with large flake powders using the #12 and larger rotors.

Just picked one up on sale from Mid South. Added a small RCBS item to get it to 300 and will get $50 rebate from RCBS. It will end up almost $100 off normal list. http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.co...sku=0004498923

This will help greatly. It was the way I was taught long ago.
^^^The above is just an opinion.

The electronic powder dispensers are slower than tapping the handle. I'd rather save the room on my bench & spend the money on something else.

its not about speed as much as its about accuracy... to be more specific it is about achieving that perfect balance between the two
