    Unlucky Loading Session

Had these three primer issues out of 153 total loads in my session today. I probably forced these (except the one that went in backwards. I dunno wtf happened there. I put in all the primers correctly.) A quick disassembly and decap solved the issue though.

loading by hand or on press?

I have seen this happen while loading by hand, fix is to watch primer come up before putting case in primer tool

Should have mentioned that this was on a Dillon 650. I was doing a session of 80 rounds once I had the powder measure dialed in for my plinking load. It's a bit hard to see how the primer ends up in the press unfortunately.

I treat handloading primers like a two stage trigger and watch to make sure i have a correctly oriented primer prior to sticking the brass in.

you might want to stop watching TV while priming j/k. unless you are...then stop that

Lol, no not watching TV. Doing this in the garage and just feeling the primer seating by feel. I think it really ends up with me not swaging the pockets good enough for some. Some loads take a bit extra force to get the primer to seat. Others slide in like they were greased with butter. The upside down one is a mystery, but glad that I inspect each load before and after loading before it goes into my rifle.

Looks like you need to remove the crimp from the primer pocket, to me.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Definitely loading large primers for my .308.

The upside down one was an anomaly. The other two were me forcing the primer in. I've started pulling brass if the primer doesn't go in smoothly now and disposing or reusing the primer depending on its condition. Going forward I'm going to buy commercial brass vs. once fired military. Swaging sucks.

Funny enough, these went through both a RCBS pocket swager and the one that replaces the Dillon primer seater (i.e 2x swaged to be safe). No more military brass for me. The time and effort to get it ready to reload is a PITA.

Yeah I agree you probably needed some primer pocket swaging on the two cases on the right.

Well 3 bummers out of 153 isn't too bad.
Good learning experience & nobody got hurt.

I'll swap you some once fired factory 308 for your LC. I'm near Concord.
I've never seen the RCBS pocket swage. I have an RCBS swage that goes in the Rockchucker & my Buddy stores his Dillon Super Swage in my garage.

yeah I didn't pay any attention to what it was you were actually loading, I just saw the LC brass & assumed it was 223

are you sure? I still see a very distinct crimp ring on the primer pockets. when I user my dillon super swager my crimp rings are completely gone.

I load 223 on my 550 and when I first started encountered the same issue when I first started! Due diligence and a little more quality control will sort things out for you. The third primer issue just needs the crimp reamed out just a tad bit more but the other two will happen to the best of us

maybe I should invest in a Dillon super swage and toss my RCBS.
