    Lead bullet question

I have a question about lead bullets, are they accurate or just for punching holes in paper, more specifically i am loading some 200 grain 45acp and wondering if they are just as accurate as factory fmj.

    I shoot a SAECO 200 gr SWC, WW 231@ 5.5, OAL 1.245 tapper crimp to .472
will shoot off rest with a scope my Baer 1911 @ 50 yards ,1 1/2 inch 5 shots.

So yes GOOD cast lead will shoot very good.

If loaded properly, on a decent shooting pistol ... they are plenty accurate.

I shoot 230 grain LRN with WSF and I can get 2" groups at 25 yards using open sights on a rest.

That is plenty accurate. Using offhand techniques with open sights, I am happy if I can get 10 out of 10 hits on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper at 25 yards.

Good cast bullets are just as accurate as jacketed bullets. Some guns are more finicky than others though.

I really like Bear Creek 200g HBRN. Solved issues with a microgroove carbine at the same time.

Yes lead boolits are, or can be very accurate!

They also make great hunting boolits!

And if you make your own, they are super cheap to shoot!

If the lead bullet is sized to fit the barrel it is as accurate or more so than jacketed. When you buy jacketed they are made to fit the norm. When you cast your own you can size them to fit your weapon.

+1 for accuracy. I load 200gr LRN for 45acp and 45lc. Love em!

Slug your bore, and size the bullets to the groove diameter. The barrel life is extended with lead bullets, and they can be just as accurate or even more so than jacketed. If you don't size them properly for your bore, you can get extensive leading, which can lead to poor accuracy and higher pressures. If you are just buying lead bullets from a manufacturer, they may be cheaper, but are not customized for your bore and you may get the above mentioned problems.
If you cast your own, from free lead, you can reload .45acp for less than you can buy .22lr. Remember to lube them. .45 generally isn't gas checked either.
