Ok, folks, I have the cart in front of the horse... again.
Walked into a LGS the other day and was able to pick up a lightly used, scoped Weatherby Mark 5 in 270 WM. Was a hard swallow but looked nice and the numbers worked out. Handsome gun.
So, now that I have it, I probably need to shoot it... but wondering if I could hit the broad side of the barn at the max effective range of the cartridge. How much can one slow down the round? Just getting into reloading and think that if one starts at 10% under to gin up a round, you logically could go the other way and lower the velocity out the tube. Making the association of loading a .44 Mag to 44 Special specs. However, would prefer to not stick a bullet half way down the barrel. :-)
I understand that Norma makes the Weatherby rounds, but presume that the brass is not as easily found on the ground as 9MM. Sourcing?
Suggestions, literature referrals, advise, etc appreciated. Thanks much. Be Well.
