    Question about loading Lee slugs

So I decided to cast and load some Lee Key Drive 1 oz. slugs. I am using Load data from the Lee web site as follows:
    Remington Premier hull
    WAA12 wad ( I am using the CB-1118-12)
49 gr Blue Dot (yeah that's a lot!!)

    So here are my problems,:

First off I can't fit 49 gr of powder in the hull, the wad sits above the bottom of the crimp line. 45 gr allows the wad to sit right, is that ok ?

The slug will not sit in the bottom of the wad without being forced down thus causing a bulge in the hull so I used a couple of shot cards to raise the slug and that seams to of helped a little but I still have a small bulge in the hull that causes the hull to fit very tight in the barrel. So my questions are do you think the CB wad is the problem ? Is the WAA thinner at the pedals ? (I dont have any WAA wads)

Also if the hull is very tight in the barrel can that cause excess pressure that I should be concerned about ?

If anyone else is loading these slugs what is your recipe ?

    Thanks for the help,

Just started to reload slugs that I have cast. Having a different problem than you are. I need MORE fill to get the crimp right where it is intented to be.
Using a Winchester AA hulls, 1 oz. Lee slug, Winchester WAA12R wads and 19 gr. Red Dot. Very impressed with the accuraticy of these shells at 75ft indoor range.

Change wads and your problem will disappear. Shooting slug is alot of fun and affordable if you cast.

I say change out the wad or lose some powder.

I've realized loading shot for a smooth bore is a lot more forgiving than brass.

The WAA12R is a very short wad. You can easily raise the slug higher with many different other wads. Just make sure they are made for tapered hulls.
