    First time loading pistol. Help!

Okay, so I've been loading rifle for a couple years now and am now starting to reload pistol. I'm starting with 45acp for my 1911. I am using the Hornady Custom Grade New Dimension Nitride 3-Die Set. I feel like I've set everything up correctly on my Hornady LNL single stage press. I am having issues with some rounds not ejecting easily when just seeing how they chamber in my gun when at my bench. I feel like I am flaring the case correctly because the flare is very minimal and it accepts a bullet easily. The bullet seater/crimp die is the one I am having issues with I think. Sometimes I will have 1 of 5 rounds not eject easily and sometimes 4 of 5. Sometimes I have a ripple just below the neck and sometimes a ripple roughly 1/2 down the brass. And sometimes I have a slight bulge visible about half way around the case. Some I don't really see any visible issues but it doesn't eject easily still. Why might I have these issues? I assume they are being over crimped so I keep adjusting crimp die out. Why are some brass coming out fine and some coming out bad? Is it just because the slight differences of brass length?

If you can, please post some pics of the brass.

Sounds to me like you got way too much crimp. You need to back off the crimp a little bit. Doing this will alter your COAL however ... that is ... unless you crimp in a separate step.

Since you say you are using a 3-die set. I am assuming that you seat and crimp in one step.

Again; it looks to me like you have way too much crimp. The crimp should only be enough to remove the flare from the belling process.

I agree with too much crimp.

Since the round headspaces off the case mouth, too much crimp can also cause the type of issues you are experiencing ejecting, along with the collapsed / wrinkle in the body of the brass.

I use a case gauge to do random checks on my loads. I crimp just enough to remove the case bell, and use a separate crimping die. .45 ACP is cake to load once you get it all dialed in.

Had the same thing happen once and it was too much crimp.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Keep a .45 ACP barrel next to you on the bench. Random check the headspace against the chamber with your loaded rounds. And yes, sounds like you have too much crimp. Double check your COAL too.

Sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner. I appreciate the input. I was able to get my rounds chamber correct and tested them at the range. All went well. I backed out my die more and that fixed my issues. The thing that was confusing me was the inconsistency between the rounds. Some were fine and some weren't. Obviously the slight differences in case length was the reason. But like I said, thanks again everyone!
