Anyone have opinions on H380 Powder in >.30 rifles>

I need more powder for my 8x57 loads and since H4895 is GONE everywhere and the only powder I found for sale at 20 a# was H380, spherical rifle powder. I stumbled on someone who claims to use 54g of it in 8x57 but wondering if there are any people here who have experience with this powder?

Edit, it seems wideners does have it in stock. Holycrap.. orderoderorder and it's gone.

...but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.

I've used it in 8mm Mauser, 30-06, and 303Brit. I like it, it burns amazingly cleanly.

I honestly couldn't say if it's better, like you I chose it because it was available & worked for the calibers I was loading for. The only stick powder I have is IMR 4064 & VV N140, and I'm saving those for 308.

The powder that gives you what you want in your gun wether it's accuracy or velocity or both is the best.

It depends on what you're loading but I've tried it for 30-40, 30-06, and .308. There are more accurate powders for those calibers, but it did okay...

In Krag, 4064 was more accurate with 180gr projectiles. In 30-06, IMR4895 was cleaner, and more accurate. In .308, Varget or 4895 are better options.

I am loading 8x57IS, 170grain cor-locked RN (only thing available at the time).

I tend to shoot this rifle, open sights, at 200-400M. It is more fun that way.

Great powder for accuracy loads but velocity is typically lower, muzzle flash is high.

Better with heavy bullets and longer barrels.
