    Reloading With Power Pistol Question

I have been reloading (Mainly 9mm) with HP-38 for quite a long time using an older RCBS Powder Measurer. It has the Green Clear Plastic Well for the powder.

I recently switched to Power Pistol powder due to availability. The plastic now appears as if it has been sanded, is slightly rough, and no longer clear (looks cloudy/scratched). The PP powder sticks to the plastic as well and must be lightly scraped off to get it loose.

Everything else works well, and the amount dispensed is consistent and accurate.

Still got PP powder left and just got some HP-38. Would like to know why this happened. Has anyone else ever seen this as I am now hesitant to switch the measurer back to HP-38 until I know what is going on.

Residual solvent left in the powder plus nitroglycerine content.
My old lot of PP was so bad, it would clump up in the hopper and not flow well. This can happen with almost any powder.
No problem switching back, just be sure to get all residual powder out of measure.

Thanks. This was even a new lot of PP. So far the measure has been just as accurate as it was with HP-38 but I will watch it to be sure. Just got 4 pounds of HP-38 today so I may switch back soon.

Yeah, it happened to me as well with Power Pistol and my Hornady powder measure. It more or less "etched" the clear tube.

I made the mistake of leaving some PP in my hornady measure for an extended period of time. It damn near melted the plastic hopper tube. completely deformed it....still my favorite auto pistol powder though, and I ALWAYS remember to empty the hopper now. Live and learn.

Wow. I left mine in as well, that's why it's "etched", but to actually deform the tube, that's crazy.

I will be emptying the hopper tonight. Especially since I now have HP-6 and HP-38 that I just got. I will never leave the PP in the hopper again.

                Thanks for the heads up.
I just came home with a fresh LB of PP Powder today.

You should really empty the hopper after each session of reloading, even if you think you will be getting back to it in the same day. Various powders react on different company's hoppers. High nitro content (Bullseye) turns Hornady hoppers brown even if you only leave it in there for about an hour and go through 4 pounds of it in 6 months. On top of that, if you return the powder to its container after each session, you don't run the risk of mixing powders and turning that expensive stuff into lawn fertilizer (or worse yet, blowing up your gun).
