    dillon precision square deal b.....thoughts

Looking at Dillon Precision for about a month now. I am a beginner at reloading and have done reloading with a Lee Classic reload kit in .308. I havent shot my remington 700 as Ive gotten interseted in handguns. Now I wanna do my own 9mm reloads. Id like your thoughts on the square deal....I know it has a propietery die setup, but is that good or bad? Or should I save some more and just get a dillon 550B?

If you want to load rifle progressively then get the 550. He'll, I'd get the 550 anyways because you won't be limited to handgun ammo or proprietary dies in the future.

I've had one for many years but would not recommend it. Dillon customer service has been great when I've had problems so I would definitely consider another Dillon press, just not the SDB. As noted, it has proprietary dies which is too limiting. You may only want to reload pistol calibers now, but eventually you will want to reload rifle calibers as well.
Check back later for a witty comment.

Too limited for my tastes. I'd get the 550B or a Hornady LnL. Both are great products and both are backed up with terrific customer service.

I've had a SDB for over 20 years. I love it. Absolutely love it. Yes it only does handgun rounds. Yes the dies are proprietary/ non standard. Big deal.

Dillon CS is the best. The thing spits out ammo like a machine. Ammo is top quality too. Powder measure throws any powder I've run through it with great accuracy.

If you reload 223 then you might want a 550 or 650. I do all my rifle on a single stage and I've never felt the need for progressive for rifles. But fr pure handgun reloading the SDB is without doubt the best thing going. It's an amazing machine. Like I said mine's over 20 years old. Nearer to 25 and it cranks out ammo like it did day one.

If you have any ?'s pm me.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

            ^^^^^ what this guy said....

I've had mine for a couple months now and have loaded about 4k or 9mm, 2k of 40, and about 1k of 45....

The only down side is it is a little cramped to change calibers... But once you do it the first time, it's pretty simple

SDB....great press for handgun only....I have four of them mounted on a plate in a swivel vise. I can load on any one of them at a moments notice.

As stated, they load handgun ammo like there's no tomorrow. Accurate powder drops, well put together, easy to use, easy to do any maintenance or repair. What's not to like?

Yes the dies are proprietary, but remember that each press comes with a set of dies of your choice when you buy one. You have to buy dies separately when buying a 550 or 650.

Excellent press, excellent choice, excellent ammo.

for handgun the SDB is great, but if you want to to load rifle as well might as well get the 550

Thanks guys....at the moment Im considering just doin handguns only....preferably 9mm as that's what I shoot the most. I watch my friend reload in his 1050 and watch massive videos of people reloading....the sound of the press just auto indexing puts a big smile on my face. I just though going out and shooting was an addiction!!!

I have had a couple square deals and loved them. I always though ended up using my LEE CLASSIC TURRET PRESS more than everything else.

I load rifle on a rockchucker single stage.I only have one caliber handgun i shoot so i went with the SDB i got mine in 2000 and have been very happy with it.What i like about it too is that its all set up i dont need to change dies to load reset powder thrower, etc i just do a couple powder drops to check then load up.I could walk into garage and crank away.

If you plan on shooting one caliber for handgun then yes go for it.I prefer the single stage for rifle cause i like to inspect at every stage too.Been doing it like this since 97
