Need your resources! 5.56

Ok so like many I'm tired of this 5.56 BS. Average 5.56 is going for about $420 shipped for 1k of XM193 when I use to get it for $320 shipped any time I pleased.



Finally done hiding my AR away to hopefully scavenge whats left of my 4k XM193 I had which is now about to 250 rounds if that.


So what is the going price for loading your own 5.56 with TODAY material costs. And where are you guys getting the best deals for basic plinking 5.56 ammo.


I already have the brass and press. I can get the dies with out a issue. Now I just need good places with reasonable pricing for materials to actually see if its worth reloading my own 5.56 and I can finally get my plinking ammo down to about $0.32 to $0.35 a round and stop hiding away my 5.56 AR's.



Much appreciated hopefully you guys know of some places I can find supplies to get loading.

are you interested in .223 or strictly 5.56?

if you're interested in .223, then here was where i went crazy the last few days. bank account feels like i got hit with a semi but then, i receive all my toys and i feel all better

primers - No.41 from www.midwayusa.com, or you can just do a search on gunbot or google.

Now, doing strictly the cost / round, given some average numbers, i will be doing mine at $0.22-$0.25 per round.

I think it makes sense to reload. plus, if you have the funds, you can stock up on bullets, powders and primers and hopefully you kept your brass and you can survive some of this crazy anti-gun propaganda and panic buying.

And I already have 3k rounds of 5.56 brass from my previous stash. Just need supplies. Ill PM you tho.

20-25 cents depending on when I bought the components during the panic and right now
I'm loading match 308 for 50-60 cents around
Better than paying $1.5-2 per round for FGMM

And all I need now is primers and powder for decent prices locally.


Sorry Im not paying $44 in just hazmat to ship this crap. So anyone know any local places around OC with cheap powder or rifle primers?

If you have the brass already, about 18 to 20 cents a round. Best bullet is Hornady bulk 55gr FMJBT. Natchez and Graf's have had them recently for about 11 to 12 cents per. Buy primers from stores where you can find them. Look for powder at stores too as you will save hazmat shipping fees that way.

Some good powders are WW 748 (hard to find right now). AA 2230 and AA 2520

I like CCI and WW SR primers, magnum are OK if that is all you can find, standard are best though IMO

For $.093 a round. Had some other stuff in cart and got a $10 off so I figured free shipping. I see a lot of reviews on them about the OAL sucking but the ones ho dont care about OAL say they shoot fine if you use the ogive.

And I know the costs break down and how to divide it. Im just trying to find good place(s) to buy powder and primers with good prices.

I've already dumped $1300 on a set up for my 308 loads so its not really an issue factoring in the cost of equipment for these. Also with these prices as in my sig I may as well start loading for all my calibers pretty soon. So that gap isnt too big on my mind.

True but I enjoy reloading as its almost another hobby for me. So I don't account for time being I only load when bored and enjoy doing it. Even then if its any savings of $0.05 or more its worth it IMO. And with my 308 loads matching $2 a round and 5.56 going for about $0.45 a round its way with it IMO. especially if I can get it under $0.25 per on 223

How much should I pay myself per hour when I am reloading considering that I would NOT be doing any other paying work during that time?
It's not like I am taking off a day of work without pay to load ammo...
