Is there anything wrong with my resized .223?

See below. There is a small faint line on the base of the brass. Is this normal?

I did have to put a little muscle right about this spot to get it to fully re-size the brass. Brass is stamped "LC". Fired once round. I also cleaned the outside and inside. Did not tumble per se, but cleaned it enough to be free of debris. I just wanted to see what the new die did to a round (wanted to check dimensions to make sure die was resizing to standard specs.

Am I using too much lube? not enough lube?

It is also a brand spanking new Lee .223 Die and press. Is my press set up wrong? I brought the handle to its most upward position, screwed down the die until it just hit the shellholder and then locked it down. I used the shellholder that came with the .223 die set. I was also de-priming the brass at the same time as the resize. I did not do the de-prime separately.

That is common with some dies. The line you dee is the edge of the die where it no longer touches the brass. Some dies have a tapered edge for ease of entry. Lee is one make that does this. If your brass chambers in your rifle you are fine. Load on

Thank You Sir. I was concerned if this was bulging or too much lube.

I just did a quick measurement with the calipers and everything seems to be within tolerance.

Lee instructions say that after the die contacts the shellholder, back of the ram and turn the die down 1/4 to 1/3 turn more then lock down. Then as BigBronco says if it chambers or passes the case gage you are good to go.

Looks like you are using a base size die, it is normal. If you haven't got a case gauge yet, buy one before you make any more rounds, or you might end up pulling LOTS of bullets..... ask me how I know.......

Yes. Please do an additional 1/4 turn after contact with the shell holder.

i have case length gauges coming in so i will wait for these before running anymore.

in the meantime, i will be using a universal decappping die and decapping and tumbling brass and maybe even de-swaging.

If I am resizing brass fired in my AR15 it goes through the sizing die smoothly telling me my rifle has a tight chamber, however, resizing range pickups it can be a chore if it was shot in in a rifle with a looser chamber, especially near the base.

its one of these, basically you drop your case in it, and if it fits it is the right size (length and width)

I have an RCBS small base size die, which is about .002 smaller than the normal 223 resizing dies, and does a great job of prepping brass for AR15s which seem to be notorious for being "tight"
