    Lapua 308 Brass

After reading so much praise about Lapua 308 brass, I have decided to finally pony up the money for some and see what the hoopla is all about.

Let's see if running Lapua over Federal 308 and PPU 308 brass gives me tighter groups.

(Honestly doubting it will over the Federal, but def over the PPU)

I had to buy some for my .260 Rem. project, and am very pleased with the quality of the brass.

The font alone is worth it.

Which brass the standard Winchester with the large rifle primer or the Palma with the small rifle primer.Lapua makes both.
        4PH7217 Big primer
        4PH7226 small primer

I purchased the standard 308 Lapua Brass.

I'll probably run it straight out of the box and then load up some 175smk in FC and PPU brass and have them compete for groups.

I was considering PMC, but the necks are amazingly bad in uniformity.

You might not see tighter groups because that depends on a lot of other variables (weapon, optics, skill of shooter, etc.). However, what you don't see in groups downrange, you will make up for in brass life...

True I may not, and if I don't, i'll be going back to FC and LC brass.

You might need to rework the load. The weights are similar, but the capacity may be different. Lapua will outlast the Federal brass with hot loads.

I’ve wanted to try it as well… Lapua brass just sounds fancy, but my PPU brass has been treating me so well I just can’t get myself to pony up the cash. I honestly doubt ill even see a difference.

Factory Rem 700 308 barreled action in an AICS chassis with SWFA 5-20 FFP scope.

I started with factory new 147 PPU ammo…

which shot like this... pretty junky, so I just used to it bang steel when I am too lazy to reload.

Started reloading it with 168gr AMAX / Varget / CCI #200... Nothing special for prep... tumbled, neck sized, trimmed, primed and loaded. Instant gratification on the first ladder... Best group from that ladder @ 100 yards (3 shots)

More 100 Yard results - H4895 ladder (.5 gr increments - All 5 shot groups)

Back to Varget @ 200 yards (3 shot group)

So far I have about 4-5 firings on this brass and it’s still going strong, and still delivering the above results. Next ladder I made I’m going to shoot at 200 and 300 to fine tune and get dope information, but it looks promising.

In my experience, the biggest difference between PPU and Lapua brass is in the flash holes. I've noticed the floor of the PPU primer pockets are sometimes uneven or deformed from punching the flash hole with a dull punch during manufacturing. The Lapua must be drilled, since they are always prefectly formed and totally flat on the base of the pocket.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I was impressed just opening the box, I have never seen commercial brass come that perfect.

It's kinda like the Honda vs. BMW thing: Both of them will get you to work, but you'll enjoy the experience a lot more with the BMW.

You should try the Lapua with the small primer as well.It will last even longer and handle pressure better.

Just received the Lapua 308 brass.

First off, the box is wow.

Second.... the brass made my eyes pop out with how beautiful it is.

                            Wow.

just ordered 1000 pieces myself. I have been very impressed with what it has done in my 338 lapua.
