    1050xl question

I was loading .223 last night and noticed that after the powder was dropped into the shell and advanced to the powder check, that a granule or three would fly out of the case when it advanced to the powder check. The the same thing again as it advanced to the bullet seating position.

Each advance is kind of a little snappy. I disassembled it and cleaned it up. Same results. I did about 80 rounds before I stopped. It's not like there was a ton. Maybe 4gr. from the 80 rounds.

Thanks. I started to do that towards the end, when I couldn't take anymore powder flying out. Lol.

Dillon will help you work it out, they did for my 650. In fact, they told me to do the "spring cutting" mod that's popular on youtube. It works!

I have been loading 223 on my 1050 all week with the same problem what I do is when it goes from powder drop to the next station I put the bullet on and guide it with my figers. Thisbhas sloved most of the spilled powder problems I have.
I am probably going to polish up the powder funnel when im done with this next batch, but I do think that will make much of a difference.

I am sure my powder funnel is not the problem. The problem occurs after the charge is dropped.

You need to dampen the shell plate to reduce the snap as it rotates and indexes into its next position.

I cut my spring about 1/2 of a coil off the bottom. seems to cut down on the spilling a bit... but I also catch it with my finger on my 650. Id start with 1/2 of a coil and slowly cut more until you're happy. Don't cut too much though!

I ended up calling Dillon, and they said for .223 to tighten the nut on he shell plate down until the shell drags a little from it. Then just adjust the nut until the powder stops being thrown out.

                  It worked.

Some folks on the Brian Enos forums bought a bearing kit, seems like it works, but some guy said it didn't work for him.

On my XL650, I cut 1/2 a coil off and it helped a lot.

how hard is it to reach in with your left hand and put a finger over the case mouth? You can also try to tighten the shell plate down a bit more. You can use a thick Marine grease on the shell plate to slow it down a bit.

Grease on the shell plate = bad!

And it would be easy to hold the case but its an inconvenience

Put about 200k rounds threw it and the snap will go awAy

Dillon said to tighten the shellplate nut. That .223 was really the only round that filled up the shell and have this problem. It worked.
