    Ammo cost question

What do you folks think. Did the cost of ammo go up from the manufactures, or do the ammo retailers jack the price up because of supply and demmand (I will be the first and maybe the only one to say I understand if they cant get it on a regular basis, sell it for what you can)? I know with gasoline everybody involved has a built in profit margin so when oil goes up, the refineries (sp?) charge more, then the distributers charge more, and the stations charge more......wonder if ammo is like that. I know when Walmart gets ammo in the prices are similar to what the were prior to Sandy Hook......

Probably both forces are raising prices. If the ammo manufacturing companies are to be taken at their word, they are working around the clock to produce as much as they can. This would translate into higher wage costs for their company which they will pass on - ultimately to the consumers.

Both. Cost of components are at an all time high. Availability is at an all time low. Prices will increase on both ends but the dealers/stores are not helping by severely marking up prices to offset the low inventory. They are severely capitalizing on this market.

Raw materials are high so I expectmfg costs/prices have gone up a bit. The gunshops are marking up to make up for low volume. The Walmarts don't depend on ammo sales much for their profits. Keeping it low (when they can get it) gets you in the door to buy other stuff.

IMHO, it is all because of the value of a dollar. The FED is printing too much money. When I was a kid, gold was $32 an ounce. Today it is $1,313 an ounce. Using gold as the standard to value a dollar, you can understand where we're at.

There used to be a saying in California, "If you think home prices are high now, just wait until next year!" I believe the same can now be said of ammo prices. We must suck it up, or do without.

In the last two months I've been able to pick up both ammo and reloading components all at pre panic prices although you have to be patient and check quite often. This tells me that the manufacturers in general are not raising their prices and that certain retailers are just trying to make a killing while they can. Others such as Walmart, Powder Valley, Grafs, Wideners, and Mid South have all kept their prices the same as a year ago. They would not be able to do this if their cost had gone up and they would have no reason to since everyone else is either out of stock or charging 2 to 10 times more.
