So a while back I purchased some SS109 62 grain steel core bullets from Wideners. I am now looking for load data to work up some loads. All I can find is data from accurate/ramshot. However, I don't have any powders in either brand. I would like to use the powders I already own (pretty much every kind of IMR, Hodgdon, and Winchester). Is there a place to get load data that I am missing? Or do I have to use data from a heavier bullet that has the same length? Any help or info would be much appreciated. Thanks

I pretty much used 55gr data when loading the M855 bullets. Start low as the pressure will be higher since the bullet is longer. -
I just looked at hodgdon's webpage and they list 22-24 grs of h322 for 55-69 gr bullets. You are gtgComment

as an example i load 24.5gr of hogdon varget with a 75gr bullet,velocity out of a 20' barrel is 2800fps.Keep it simple!Comment

Looking through my notes, I see that the recommended load with IMR4895 under SS109's is 24.5. That's just off the internet.
Lee has 63g bullets at 23.5 to start w/ H4895, 24.5 for Varget. The book says 2800 FPS, but my chronograph has me well under that.
I've been using 23.5 with H/IMR 4895 under SS109's with good results.Last edited by SanPedroShooter; 07-21-2013, 6:56 PM.Comment

Have you checked here? http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp
No data specifically for the 62 steel tip bullets. I used the 63 grain data, as suggested by others for my 62 FMJBT lead core using H335.
On a 16" barrel here's what I got;
24.2 grn OAL 2.222-2.230" Ave Vel 2758 ES 29.58 SD 11.66
24.4 grn OAL 2.245-2.252" AV 2861 ES 75.74 SD 20.07
24.6 grn OAL 2.247-2.255" AV 2889 ES 93.62 SD 29.24
24.8 grn OAL 2.246-2.255" AV 2939 ES 87.84 SD 22.04Comment

Could a 14.5 inch barrel explain the difference between the LEE books 2800 FPS and the 2500 I am getting?Comment

YMMV but using SS109 bullets, H-335, 24.4 grains was giving me an Avg MV of 3020 FPS using CCI SR primers, LC 08 surplus brass with a COAL of 2.255 out of a 20" bull Barrel AR. Hope this helps, I worked this load up to roughly match M855 natoLast edited by Noonanda; 07-23-2013, 5:22 PM."You see in this world theres two kinds of people my friend.
