    excessive pressure?

I took my Off list AR out today and fired 100 rounds, in which it functioned flawless. I noticed that the winchester 5.56 ammo was getting a little chewed up on the rim, but the remington 223 was fine. Flipping through my hornady reloading book it says that this could be a sign of high pressure. Could this be true, or is winchester brass softer than remington? My upper is supposed to be rated for 5.56.

Without pics it is not easy to say, but it sounds more like your extractor may have a burr.

Chewed up rims is usually the last sign you will see regarding overpressure. If you look at the back of the case do you see a shiny circular impression? How do the primers look? Are they flattened out?

First sign of excessive pressure is a flattened primer. Pictures are here...http://freedomsight.net/?p=2109

Assuming the Win is factory ammo, very unlikely you'll see signs of excessive pressure.

I did think it was high pressure being a factory load, just seemed kinda wierd that it would only happen will the winchester ammo and not the remington ammo. I would take a picture but my camera probably isnt good enough to even see it

Here's some good examples of pressure issues. This was a combination of soft brass (I suspect) and excessive headspace.
