    RCBS Uniflow Throwing Inconsistent Charges

So here's the deal... I've been testing new loads for 9mm, and am trying a mix of self cast Lee 124gr RN and Titegroup. The load calls for around 4gr of powder, but at these small measurements my uniflow is constantly throwing + or - .01gr. I've had no problems with larger charges, but the small charges have been bugging me. I'd like to have some faith in my measure and not have to take all the time to individually measure out each charge.

I use a consistent motion when throwing the charge, I have a powder baffle, I make sure the powder is settled, and I have no issues with static.

Am i just being too picky? The only other thing I can think to try is the Small Measuring Cylinder. I just don't know if it will do much for such a small charge. Does anyone have experience with the small cylinder, and whether or not it will make a difference? If anyone has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

Edit: This should read + or - .1gr, not .01gr, sorry.

Yah, you are being a little picky, as they are only guarantee +- .1 gn. Even my RCBS motorized dispenser is +- .1 gn. If you are consistently within that range, you have good technique. Weigh one every ten, and keep up the good work.

All of the above and I would be your scale is only accurate + or - .1gr also. So it could be your scale.

Use the small measuring rotor. I always use that for pistol and the large one for rifle.

The large cylinder is only giving you +/- .01 variance? I read around about the small cylinder and it seemed to be perfect for small pistol loads so I back-ordered it about 4 months ago(I'm still waiting). I guess it wouldn't hurt much to see how the standard cylinder does for 4-5 grain charges while I wait. The cylinder is the one & only thing keeping me from actually loading some .38spl & 9mm parabellum.

You have a scale that will measure a one one hundredth variance? Or is that a typo? I regularly use my uniflow for pistols and have been perfectly happy with 1/10th grain variance.

              Carry on.

I'm using a 505 scale. My decimal was off, it's .1gr variance not .01gr, sorry to be confusing.

You are good to go in my opinion then.
                  Happy reloading.

You could always set it up a couple tenths shy of what you want and trickle up from there, if you have that kind of free time on your hands.

I have used a Uniflow for many years for rifle. For pistol I like the Little Dandy, with the interchangeable rotors for different charges.

That's what I've been doing. It just takes forever when you're trying to load 200+ cases.

Static issues: Clean the inside good. I wipe down with a dryer sheet on the outside and cycle a bunch (30+times) of powder back into the container.
It's a pain but coating the inside with the powder by cycling it will help a ton.

The small tube will help a lot.

I get consistent +-.05 with a uniflow from the 80's updated with the quick change and case activated drop tube.

As long as your not working with max loads .1gr isn't gonna be a problem.

When I first bought it I cleaned out all the grease and wiped it down with a dryer sheet. It has since had pounds of powder through it, so I'm not worried about static.

I will be ordering the small cylinder for sure.
