my first rounds

well, over the past couple months, i've slowly been gathering everything to finally start reloading. at first, i wanted to jump in head first with a nice progressive and start pumping out the rounds for all firearms. after thinking about it, i decided to start off with a single stage and focus on rounds for my 308 bolt action to get the basics down before doing any mass production. so after finally finding some powder and primers, i made my first batch of rounds. i used 760 and Varget, 3 different charges, 5 rounds to a charge. now i just need to find time and a good place to go out and test them. i don't think the indoor ranges around here will cut it. i've attached a few pictures. don't mind the mess, i'll clean it up as i get everything situated. i wanted the press to be up higher, so i just found some scrap wood i had laying around and threw something together real quick. looks ghetto, but it's rock solid and i like the added height.

Congrats! It's pretty exciting to see your first finished round isn't it?

One thing I did for my .303 & .223 was to use a colored Sharpie on the primer for each different load and stuck a label inside the box lid listing the loads in the same colors. It worked perfectly, the color remains after firing so you can identify if there were problems with a specific load. I saw someone post about doing that here a while back and though it was a great idea.

Nice press, you will be able to use that the rest of your life. Concentrate on the basics you will be able to build some quality ammo. .308 is an accurate cartridge pay attention to detail & you will be shooting one hole for 5 shots.

I thought the first round I made was so awesome I didn't want to shoot it.
