30 carbine brass questions

Got a new toy coming, M1 Carbine, and I'll be reloading for it, so I have a couple of questions, having never messed with this round.

First obviously, where's a good place to get the brass?

The next, I assume these take small rifle primers, correct?

And speaking of primers, could I get a short tutorial on crimped and non- crimped primer pockets and how to deal with them? Will all Mil. .30 brass have crimped pockets? Do they all have crimped pockets? What do you do with a crimped pocketed case?

I found some "dewatted" LC brass for $35 per 500, Is this stuff a pain or just an extra step in punching out the primer before start?

Getting a CMP carbine? Congrats on your new carbine, enjoy.
Get brass from Midway or any large name online vendor.
Small rifle primers are what you want.
You can deal with crimped in primers easily with a $5 to $20 crimp removal/chamfering tool from Lee, Lyman, or RCBS.
Basically, resize and decap the brass like you would normally, then deal with the crimp by chamfering the primer pocket slightly with the chamfer tool. Hand operation, just twirl the tool in the primer pocket; takes two seconds.
USGI brass might have crimped in primers, but commercial ammo won't be crimped.
Looking at the few pieces of GI brass I have, I don't see crimps.
There will be a lot of commercial carb brass out there these days.
Wolf 30 carb uses a steel casing, so you prob want to avoid it for reloading.
If 'dewatted' simply means they pulled out the bullet and powder charge, then LC is as reloadable as a regular piece of brass, you'll have no trouble.

Nope, not a CMP carbine. I am buying this from an antique firearms dealer in GA who normally doesn't deal in military stuff. Says this one came from a collection that included a "handful" of M1's. Someone at the gun show where he took them to sale said that he should price it at $1200 because it was a Winchester. The others sold but this one didn't, so he put it on Guns International.com for $695. That's where I found it.
Hopefully it will pan out to be a good buy.

I get my USGI pull down non fired .30 Carbine brass from GIbrass.com, you can pick up 1000 for $60 plus shipping, they are Lake City 69 without crimped primer pockets and it is good stuff. I load it up with 110fmj's and 14gr of H110 with Small Rifle primers or Small Rifle magnum primers.

dont need brass need fmj bullets

heck i bought a thou from wideners now it has vanished everywhere

dont want lead its too messy

also with the fmj i dont have to expand the case my hornady dies just shove em in perfect

wish there was some way to re-prime primers

more than half the time i kick out the primers the little anvil seperates from the cup

if only i could get a little shoepolish sized can of priming compound
