Do you resize the 9mm bullets before you load them? I had a similar problem with a 45ACP bullet that I cast. I started resizing them after I cast and before I load them, problem solved. My 45acp mold drops bullets that are out-of round. This is the only round that I resize. All of the other rounds that I cast and reload are for revolvers, no problems with those in many years.

It's not unusual for molds to have out of round cavities or cast different size bullets from each cavity. Sizing will help solve both problems.

I haven't cast 9mm yet, but I do size all my boolits.

What type of lube are you using on the cast boolits right now?

Well my buddy who is a match shooter said that when he's competing, he lubes, otherwise he doesn't. So I haven't been either.... I'll have to look into getting a sizer, but I was hoping to keep the costs at a minimum because my whole intention of starting to cast is to keep my costs down, so spending 200 bucks on a sizer was kind of counter intuitive......

lee sizing die kit is like 20 or 25 bucks and comes with alox lube, which doesnt matter if u have molds that require you to pan lube. Sizing doesn't take long, and saves you time in the long run. Happy reloading/casting!

You should also make sure you do plunk tests in your disassembled barrel, especially with a new set of bullets. This would show whether or not the bullets will chamber properly and will help prevent your "locked slide" problem before it gets that far.

I haven't heard of anyone who doesn't lube with cast boolits. The lube is thought to not only make it easier for the bullet to go down the barrel with less friction, but to also help seal the edges of the boolit and keep gas from escaping past the boolit, which effects accuracy and leading.

I haven't tried tumble lubing, but many like it. I use an RCBS lube sizer and it works well. I have read good things about the lee sizing kit and agree with Germz, that is probably the way to go for you.

White label lube supplies lube for the size/lube presses like I have, and also the liquid alox. There is a section on castboolits pertaining to just lube, and they are mentioned often.

And All the sizing kits I've seen are like 200 bucks. Is the 20-30 dollar range just for the die and not the press the die fits in?

Bite the bullet and pony up for a Star lube/sizer and a Midway heater. You'll end up thanking me later.

Seem like the first step would be to measure the diameter of your cast bullet.
also is it round? Moulds can be improperly made on occasion.
You also should slug your bore -- for best fit. Generally .356 dia works well in the 9mm --
Since your dillon - presumably- does not single stage you will need a small press or a lubrisizer -
I think a lee small press and sizing die set up is about the cheapest way -
Star is really about the best lubrisizer but also the most expensive.

A lyman cast bullet handbook, any edition, or even an older ltman manual will clear up some of your questions about cast boolit loading.
