Help in reloading 32 Win Special

I need some assistance in reloading for the 32 Win Special. Im loading for a Marlin 36.
I have hunter specialty 170 grain lead flatpoint. The Lyman 49 says coal is 2.605" which I believe is wrong. The Speer manual says 2.565. Pressing the bullet to the bullets seating shoulder puts the coal at 2.450.
Can anyone provide some insight on what coal would work best.

Max COAL is 2.565" with the 170 bullet. There isn't a lot of data out there on this old timer. You might look at the article by Chuck Hawks for more info. http://www.chuckhawks.com/32spec.htm

See where 0.030" off the lands is. Good starting point.

The 32 Win Spc is a classic lever gun cartridge and as such the COL is based on where the cannulare is. You want a firm roll crimp so you don't get any bullet set back due to recoil.
