Case sticking

I have a Lee Classic Four Hole Turret Press and I have a problem with the cases sticking or hanging up as they are leaving the powder drop/ flaring die.

My problem is strictly with the .44 magnum die.

I have tried changing the flare to see if that might be it... If I reduce the flare too much the projectile will not sit right for seating.... I tried some graphite in the die itself and also some lube on the case.....same issue...

Thoughts? Any help is appreciated.

Completely normal.

If it's causing problems you can polish the inside of the die but it's probably not necessary. In time it will go away on its own.

Are you sizing new brass?

I have had this problem with new 44 special brass. The new brass seemed to grip the expander/flare part of the powder drop on my Dillon press. I suspect that's what may be happening to you if you are using new brass. To smooth things out I would smear a very light bit of sizing die wax on the outside of the drop tube every two or three cases. This helped a lot.

If it is used brass then I have no idea as this never presented a problem for me.

New Lee dies are notorious for this.
My Redding, RCBS, and Dillon dies have never done this. All three of my Lee dies do it.

Also you notice it way more on a single stage or turret press. It's hard to notice on a progressive.

Take the insert out of the die, polish the s**t out of it and reinstall. You will love the difference.

I was thinking that way too Cheep.... I just used Emory cloth but now that you mention it I am going to break out the dremel and shine it up!

I agree with Cheep. The burrs left behind on the flare insert during the machining process causes the drag your experiencing. Just need to knock down the burrs and polish.

When I use to work at my previous job we use to have a old lathe. I just chucked the flare insert used a small precision file and crocus cloth.
