    Inconsistent charges with Dillon 1050

I have been messing around with my dillon 1050 trying to dial in specfic loads. I have found that even after polishing and installing a Uniquetek micrometer, it will still drop inconsistent charges. I have read a ton with google searches but a lot of them are old posts.

Is there any powder measure that I can add on to my 1050 that would be more consistent? It is setup for .223 and I only use H335 powder which meters good. Not sure why I am getting inconsistent charges.

What kind of deviation are you getting? My 650 drops H335 with a +/- .1ish

I had it set at 24.5 and it would throw up to 25.3. Not every charge would be that high but there was one.

I was thinking about adding a Hornady LNL powder measure on. I also read that people were adding on the RCBS Uniflow powder measure.

Check to make sure everything lines up. Also check for anything binding, and the wire spring make sure it is working properly. I had one that was giving me some problems but it was the wire hooked wrong.

Did you run a pound or 2 of powder threw it first? It help a lot after it has a lot of powder residue on it...

My powder drop will hold 23.5 all day... I highly doubt a hornady or rcbs will do better.

Same here, I hold 23.5 constantly.

What is the best way of doing this? All of my brass is already processed. It just needs primers, powder, and bullets. I was thinking about just filling up the hopper with about 50 cases, and just running them around to prime them, and fill them up with powder, and then pulling them off and putting them into a reloading block.

I am picking up my spotting scope on Monday and still have to work up a load for the 55gr V-max/Z-max bullets with H335. I have read so many different things on where to start for them. The Hornady manual is the only one that lists them but is very conservative. Hodgdon starts quite a bit higher.

Dump powder in and then back out.... Also run at least 100 cases threw it.

It will break in after a while.... You just have to get rid of the "new"

Best bet is to contact Dillon direct, yes you may have to spend a little wait time to get through, but really it's not that bad. They will give you the correct scoop....after all that's what they do!

I use AA2460 in my 1050 for .223. The charges have been 24.9-25.0 consistently (25.0 is my load).

I think tiller is correct about running powder through the powder measure first. I think the measure and/or powder bar gets that graphite type film on it and gets more consistent.

There have been threads about buffing the inside aluminum bell of the powder measure housing to a shine and that helping with consistency.

That's odd, I have used several powders with the 1050. Unique, WSF, WST, CFE223, ARCOMP, Varget, BLC-(2) and even IMR 4198 and it always throws dead on. Are you sure you have the correct bar installed and the powder measure height correct.

Yeah I tested about 5 more dumps yesterday. I had it set at 25.0 grains. 3 out of the 5 dumped at 25.0, 1 at 24.9, and one at 25.1. I am picking up my spotting scope tomorrow so I should be able to hopefully go work up a load since its not 110 degrees out. Once I do that I can start cranking them out and checking them. I don't think that +-.1 is going to affect accuracy too much. I really wish I had a chrono so I can see what kind of velocities I am actually getting to compare in the manuals. I know it changes because I have a 14.7" 1in7 twist upper, whereas the manuals are using something like 20" 1in9 barrels.
