    .223 die set recommendations

Looking to pick up a set of .223 dies. I know... good luck with that right

I have a Redding BigBoss II and a newly aquired 650XL.

Going to give .223 a whirl and wanted to see what you guys recommend for a die set. Redding or Dillon. I noticed there are many different models when getting into the Redding brand.

Lastly, I was told by a longtime reloader to pick up a Dillon small base standard set (Seating die & sizing die) but a Lee factory crimp die instead of the Dillon?...

Just trying to make sense of this.

Looking forward to reloading all the .223 brass I've been saving since the early 90's

    Thanks in advance!!

The problem with getting Dillon set right now will be finding someone who has them in stock...

Yes, makes sense to use a die from the same press mfg. When I had a chance
to look at Redding dies, even with their entry level dies, they seemed a touch higher quality. I don't mind spending a few more bucks is one is more precise than the other. Especially if it's going to last a while.

This makes sense. I guess Dillon it is, if I can't make my 77gr's hit to my liking I'll go Redding for the single stage. The fine adjustment of the Redding dies are intriguing. Thanks for your insight.

Yessir they make dillon dies to dillons specs. I'd say get whatever you can get your hands in at the moment however.

I saw 223 dillon dies at Barnwood Arms Ripon today. They had at least 6.

They might do phone orders and I know they have a full selection of Dillon.

Ahh I see. I noticed your coordinating reloading classes here in CA. Thank you for donating your time to help new reloaders get into the art of reloading.

What are your thoughts of using a Lee factory crimp die vs a Dillon crimp die?

Funny to see Caiman in your reloading class pics, never thought he'd get into reloading, lol... That's great.

Crimp vs no crimp is a 9mm vs 45 debate. You'll get tons of answer.

Small base dies are cool. I don't use em, but some people swear by them.

I use some RCBS small base dies on my progressive. No issues yet

But yeah, more about whats available and your purpose for them. Quantity vs Quality.
