Norma Powders

So what can people tell me about Norma Powders...specifically 200, 201, 203b.

There is real lack of info out there about them, I can't even seem to find info on what type of powder they are...extruded....ball...etc.

Have some powder inbound and found some basic info on the Hornady Manual, so I'm going to work up some 55 and 75g .223/5.56 loads from there.

Thanks for the link to the tech info on the powder, all I bumped into when searching was the text description that's next to the little chart.

I have a little reloading guide from them, but it's pretty lacking. Only has up to 69g projectiles, the velocities are based off of a 24" barrel, and there is no pressure data.

If the actual manual more complete? No one around here has one, and they're OOS everywhere I've come across them.

I'll probably end up using the info I found in Hornady as a basis for starting, although it only has some 203b and 201 data in it.

Norma powders are the same as Alliant powders

I know 203B is RL15
201 is RL10 or 12
202 is Rhino 14 or something like that (in Europe)

Both companies are importers/resellers for some reason Norma charges more though.

edit: the argument i heard is that the Norma powders are held to a 'higher standard' the burn rates are the same though. Just look at Reloader 15 data and 203B data if you don't believe me

Right, that chart tells you it's extruded double base powder. Powder valley has the manual.

How do you know this? I've heard the rumor, also the "similar but not the same" rumor. "Know" is a strong word though and I'd be interested in any specific reference.

Yeah, the chart is handy info, looks fairly close in size to Varget

I've seen that all over the place too, but I came across and article that had Norma's CEO quoted in it and says the are very similar but not the same.

Depends on what you're trying to shoot and how fast. Look at the data on the website. 200, 201, 202 and 203b are used in both.

The powders are made by bofors in sweden and various companies pack them and sell them under their own name. Norma claims theirs are cleaner versions, some people argue yes, some no, really I think that is a case of just spending more and thinking it is better as Alliant powders are pretty damn clean burning.

I've read that reloader 12 was RP14 and RP9 was reloader 7 but I can't confirm that.
