More properly, you do not "need" to lube pistol cases for carbide dies, but can if you wish to.

No you don't NEED to lube cases for carbide pistol dies, but once you try it, you don't go back.

A few quick sprays on One Shot works wonders.

I lube all my pistol cases with Hornady One Shot even with carbine dies. Significantly reduces the effort needed to work the lever on my 550.

              +1 and
              +1

Did some without one shot when I first started. A LIGHT dusting of one shot makes such a big difference I don't know why anyone would not do it. Takes like 1 minute to put the brass in a cardboard copy paper box lid and give it a dusting. Also gives me one last chance to find that @#$@#$ 357 sig case that snuck into my 40 cal brass.

ETA: and with one shot, I have sized a few 357 sig cases to 40 without noticing. no kidding. But the powder funnel always seems to punish you for that mistake.

a little unnecessary lube never hurt anything, and the added smoothness is worth it.
yep, after 3 stuck .223 using "One Shot" "One Stuck" I now am using up the can on my pistol brass. and it makes it much smother so I might get some more just not for rifle.

the RCBS pump stuff seems to work very well.

I also use lube on pistol brass with carbide dies on my XL650. It's a night and day difference and it doesn't take much, just a quick spray.

And then you are stuck with lube on your finished rounds?

I don't go to wild parties with out a form of lube, just like I don't go into reloading bottlenecks without a form of lube. HOS for .223 and Dillon lube for larger cals. Just got some Imperial to try out.

It's a dry lube. You use very little of it. I don't really notice it on the finished rounds. Sure, it's there but it's not like a lanolin lube. My wife never noticed it when I started using it.

Since I started using Nufinish in my media the cases are pretty darn slick on their own. Ill have to get some of the Oneshot and give it a try

Ya gotta let the One Shot sit while the alcohol/propellant evaporates for it to work properly.
